Feed management is an important aspect of a modern pig farmers work. Different combinations of ingredients can be favourable in different circumstances. Many large pig farmers in Denmark use Bitlink WebIO controlled feed systems to manage feed composition and when to feed the
pigs.

The system controls, among others, feed silos, screw conveyors and feed grinding mills to create a fully automatic feed system.

The system is based around the BIT2000 industrial PC which manage the operation of the system 24 hours a day. Being a very small industrial PC it does not have a screen or keyboard, can be hidden with other electrical components and uses little electricity.

The human interaction with the system happens through the pig farmers normal PC running Bitlink software. The operator can create and adjust feed recipes and also timetables.

Technical description of the installation

The actual surveillance and operation of the system is taken care of by the BIT2000 industrial PC which is linked to the pig farmers normal PC and the rest of the WebIO controlled system.

Every silo, screw conveyor, grinding mill and any other machine in the feed system is connected to BIT2040 output components and/or BIT2050 input components. The Bitlink components are linked to various switches, vents and sensors. Each of the Bitlink components used in this system can control up to 8 signal carriers.

All this enables the BIT2000 computer to grind, mix and serve the right feed to the pigs at the appropriate time. The BIT2000 industrial PC also registers if a silo is empty and notifies the pig farmer.
