DOT A/S is a long-time Bitlink customer and the largest supplier of hot-dip galvanizing in Denmark.

To optimize work flow the company wanted to improve the operation of 2 8-ton capacity gantry cranes. Since the gantry cranes operate on the entire factory grounds, it was deemed necessary to be able to control the cranes from several locations.

Bitlink solved this assignment by connecting each crane to the factory network via wireless components. The system registers where each gantry crane is and automatically allow operation from the appropriate location.

Technical description of the installation

Each crane uses a BIT2312 WiFi modem to create a wireless connection to the factory network. The standard program PLCControl.Exe running on a PC server is constantly monitoring the 2 cranes. This PC server is connected to a 2-wire network installed throughout the factory.

At each appropriate location a control box enables the crane operator to operate the 2 cranes. The operations include up, down, left, right, speed, etc.

The PC server registers the location of each crane using DPBIT50 digital input components and DPBIT40 output components in conjunction with standard relays and sensors. Based on this information the PC server allows operation from the appropriate control panel only.
